DERMABRASION

Dermabrasion is a surgical procedure that improves and minimizes the appearance of acne scars, pox marks, tattoo scars, wrinkled skin and scars resulting from an injury. Dermabrasion involves mechanically scraping off the top layers of the skin using a special surgical instrument. The removal of superficial skin results into a healthier, smoother texture and tighter skin. The surgery takes around one hour under local anesthesia on an outpatient basis. After the dermabrasion, expect your skin to be red and swollen for a few days. A prescribed medication will reduce any discomfort. Swelling will go down within 1 to 2 weeks and may cause aching, tingling, and itching as the new skin begins to grow. The newly formed skin, which is pink at first, gradually develops a normal color. In most cases, the pinkness largely fades by 2 to 3 weeks. If the skin is healed, make-up can be used as cover-up. Normal activities can be resumed 1 to 2 weeks after the surgery. Direct and indirect sunlight should be avoided for 3 to 6 months.Use sunscreen regularly especially when you are engaged in outdoors activities.
